So Opposites really do attract?

What did you learn about magnets, magnetism, and magnetic fields?

    We learned that magnetism is a force that can attract & repel certain objects. Not all objects are affected by magnets. Some things that are not magnetic are: wood, aluminum, & copper. We also learned that magnets have 2 different poles, & opposite poles attract & same poles repel.

    Magnetism can't be seen. With magnetism, opposites attract and the earth has its own magnetic force. Magnets repel sharks and are used to cure diseases like cancer. Objects like paperclips and pipe cleaners are magnetic, but objects like brass fasteners and golf tees aren't.

    I learned that Magnets are objects that produce an area of magnetic force called a magnetic field,
    .Magnets have a magnetic north pole and a magnetic south pole. If the same pole of two magnets are placed near each other they will push away (repel), while if different poles are placed near each other they will pull together (attract).
    .Magnets only attract certain types of metals, other materials such as glass, plastic and wood aren't attracted.Metals such as iron, nickel and cobalt are attracted to magnets.
    .Most metals however are not attracted to magnets, these include copper, silver, gold, magnesium, platinum, aluminum and more. They may however magnetize a small amount while placed in a magnetic field.

    I learned that magnetism is caused by the motion of electric charges,
    . It is the force exerted by magnets when they attract or repel each other
    . Magnetism is linked to electricity, and together they make up the force called electromagnetism
    . Magnetism is the invisible force between materials such as iron and nickel. Magnetism attracts or repels.
    .Magnetism is made when an object has more electrons than protons.

    Lastly, i learned that magnetic fields by themselves are invisible to the human eye,
    . The space around the magnet is the site of the magnetic field, where the magnetic force is felt by the bit of iron.
    . The magnetic field pushes on the iron filings, forcing them to line up in patterns which curve around the magnet until they point in the same direction as the magnetic field
    . Magnetic fields are very widely used throughout modern technology, particularly in electrical engineering and electro mechanics, and
    . The magnetic field is strongest where the lines of forces come together, and is weakest when the lines of forces are far apart.

    I've learned that the same poles on a magnet repel each other. Also you can make a chain of paper clips with a small magnet. and I would have never guessed that film was magnetic! I mean who knew? Anyway that is what i've learned so far. Can't wait for our next blog!

  6. We learned that in magnets opposites attract and the same poles repeal from each other. I also learned that the sun also has a magnetic force not just earth. Lastly, I learned that not everything is magnetic some things that aren't magnetic are wood, copper, and glass. These are just some of the many things I learned about magnets magnetic force, and magnetism.

    I learned that there are 3 different types of magnets:
    Permanent magnets- never lose their magnetism
    Air-core magnets- created a current flowing through a wire and
    Electromagnets- have ferromagnetic material located inside the coils of wire.
    I also learn that opposites attract and same poles repell.

    We learned a lot about magnets in class today. We learned that opposites attract and likes repel. We also learned that they should be kept away from pacemakers. Heat can cause some magnets to lose a part of their ability. Also, Earth is the world’s largest magnet and that magnets were discovered 4000 years ago. Magnets usually attract materials such as steel. Iron cobalt, and nickel. Magnets have an area called a magnetic field around them that is invisible to the human eye. Magnetic fields are stronger when they are closer to the magnets. There is also a magnetic field around the earth. In conclusion, magnets are really amazing and I’m glad we got to learn about them.

  12. I actually learned a lot about magnetism. What surprised me a lot is that the Earth's core is made out of iron and nickel. They are the magnetic fields of the Earth. We use them for compasses. It's interesting to know that only the N+S go together. While N+N or S+S repel from each other. Not all metals are magnetic though. Iron, nickel, and cobalt are a few that are magnetic.

    I learned that a magnet is an object that gives off a magnetic field. The north side of a magnet can only attract the south side of another magnet. Two of the same sides on different magnet will repel if they are bought together. Lodestone is a natural magnet. It is also called magnetite. Some other kinds of magnets are permanent magnets, electromagnets, and air-core magnets.

  15. Magnetism is a force that helps to keep the earth in orbit with the sun. We use it in our everyday lives and it helped invent a compass which pretty much helped us navigate the world until GPS. Magnets are mostly in things made out of metal and steel. There are also some objects that are slighty magnetic like the recording tape.

Earths hot liquid core contains iron which, as it moves, creates an electric current that generates a magnetic field around the planet. Magnets are mostly thing made out of metal. All magnets have a north and south pole, including all of our custom promotional magnets. Opposite poles attract while the same poles repel each other. Some things that is not magnetic are wood, copper, and glass. Some things that are magnetic are a paper clip, nickel, and iron.

  17. I learned that some objects are subjects to magnetism while others are not. I learned that the same magnetic poles repel while different poles attract. Magnetic fields are invisible to the human eye and that the earth has its own magnetic field. Altogether I learned a lot about magnets.

    I have leaned many things about magnetism. I learned that magnetism is a force of attraction which acts at a distance. This happens because of magnetic fields. Also, I learned that all materials experience magnetism, but materials made of iron experience the strongest effect. I found out that Earth, Saturn, Jupiter, Neptune, and Uranus are the only planets with magnetism. Magnetic strength is determined by the amount of material it is made of. I have learned many great things about magnets, magnetism, and magnetic fields.

    I learned that weird objects are magnetic or not magnetic.Such as, aluminum and a golf tee don't attract. Recording tape and a nail do attract. Magnetism is not visible either.Finally, the opposite ends or poles attract. Lastly, I learned a lot about magnets and they are fun to study!

    What is a magnet exactly? Well i learned that a magnet is an object or a device that gives off an external magnetic field. It applies a force over a distance on other magnets, electrical currents, circuits, or magnetic materials. What you probably don't know is that there many other types of magnets for example there is an air-core magnet which are created by current flowing through a wire. another type is electromagnets which has a ferromagnetic material (usually made of iron or steel) located inside of the coils of wire.

    I learned that magnets produce a magnetic field. All magnets have a north and south pole. The opposite poles attract (north and south) and the same poles repel (north and north or south and south). Magnets attract to objects that are made of iron, steel, nickel, and cobalt. A compass needle points North because of magnetic force, and it attracts to the north pole.

    This week i learned a lot of things about magnets. Each magnet always has a north and south end.n+s= attracting and n+n or s+s= repeling. Also, scientists first found the magnet rock that is called magnetite.If you've ever wondered why a compass points north, its because the magnetism attracts to the north pole. Yes, that tecnically means that the earth is a magnet. Furthermore, magnets usuallyattract best with iron, steel, and some metal. Overall i really learned a lot this week!

    This week, I learned that magnets are objects made of particular materials which create a magnetic field. Magnetism is an invisible force caused by the different traits of certain objects. In addition, scientists believe that the earth's core is a mix of iron and nickel, causing the earth to have a magnetic field.

  33. In Science class, we have learned that there are many attributes of magnetism. Such as the fact that a magnet has a magnetic field. Also that the planet has its own magnetic field. The closer two magnets come together, the larger and stronger the magnetic field becomes. Some objects are magnetic and some are not. Some of the magnetic objects include steel and iron. Some of the non-magnetic metals include aluminum, copper, brass, and tin, which are conductive. That is the general idea of what I have learned about magnetism, and I hope to learn more!

Not all materials are magnetic, such as wood, cloth, glass, and fruit. Some materials that are magnetic include: iron, steel, nickel and cobalt. If you ever wondered how a compass works, the Earth's core has it's own magnetic force and that is how a compass works!

I learned that magnets have both a negative and positive side to them.In this case, negative and positives are attracted to each other, but one of the same ( negative + negative) or (positive + positive) outcome to a repel of each other. Magnetic fields are the force that surrounds the to ends of the magnets that are invisible to the naked eye, but can be seen with various tools.

    I have learned through my research and my experience in class that magnets produce a magnetic field that is invisible to the human eye. Also, magnets attract only certain objects such as different. One of these objects is iron. Other objects, such as aluminum, are not attracted to magnets. Earth has it's own magnetic field. One object that surprised me when we tested them in class was the recording tape. The majority of the class predicted that the recording tape wouldn't be magnetic, but it was! These tests also gave me knowledge of many objects that either are or aren't magnetic. I definitely learned a lot over the past week! :)

    I Have also learned that many everyday used items and some extroadinary items many people don't know about use magnetism such as the floating Cloud Sofa.
    Hong Kong-based designers David Koo and Zheng Yawei came up with this astonishing concept design for a couch that we can only dream about for now. Yes, it’s a levitating couch that makes use of magnetic force from the bottom base to stay afloat. And it looks like a cloud. I have learned many things about magnets, magnetism, and magnetism forces.

  47. I learned that magnets are objects that can attract other magnetic objects. It has an invisible force in which can either attract or repel. The north side of a magnet will attract its opposite, the south side, but repel another magnets facing it north. Many metals are magnetic such as iron and nickel. Magnets are a really attractive thing.
